The CBI informed the Kerala High Court that there was sufficient evidence, both oral and circumstantial, against the three accused--Father Thomas Kottur, Father Jose Puthurukayyil and Sister Sephi--in the Sister Abhaya Murder Case.

The central investigating agency had informed the court after Single Bench Judge, Ms Justice K Hema, directed the CBI to produce evidence against the accused while considering their bail applications.

The CBI also informed the court that there was an attempt to hamper the investigation.

Retired ASI V V Augustine, who recently committed suicide, had confessed to the CBI during interrogation that he had manipulated the records of the case under instructions from the superior officers, the CBI submitted.

The CBI added that Sanju P Thomas, the key witness in the case, had also informed the investigating agency that he had seen Father Thomas Kottur's scooter on the night of murder near the convent.

The CBI had arrested the three accused last month in the 16-year-old case.
