PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - The Archdiocese of Portland says it has met the requirements for a Roman Catholic Church program to protect children from sex abuse.

The program, called the Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, was adopted by the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in June 2002, and revised and renewed in June 2005.

It provides policies and procedures to protect children, and is reviewed by independent auditors.

In October, the Archdiocese submitted data related to the background checks and training of clergy, employees, volunteers, parents and children for the audit this year.

Archbishop John Vlazny recently received a letter from the auditors saying the archdiocese was in compliance.
