Roman Catholic Archbishop Martin Currie

The Roman Catholic Archbishop in this province says a priest convicted of sexual assault, is extremely sorry for the trouble he has caused the complainant, her family and the church. The 55-year old priest from Ghana, West Africa received a suspended sentence and a year's probation, after pleading guilty to the incident that happened while he was serving in Holyrood. Archbishop Martin Currie says it consisted solely of an unsolicited hug and kiss, but says it fits the legal definition of sexual assault. He says the priest maintains that no sexual gratification was intended, but that he pleaded guilty to the charge as sexual motivation does not have to exist for the act to be considered sexual assault. Currie says the conduct was one of bad judgement.
