THE school chaplain at the centre of an alleged pedophile ring at St Stanislaus College has been charged with having homosexual intercourse with a 12-year-old boy and engaging in two acts of buggery with pupils at the Bathurst school.

Brian Spillane, who faces 93 charges of sexual assault, is also alleged to have incited a 13-year-old to kiss, caress and masturbate four other boys and to have indecently assaulted an 11-year-old boy.

The charges are detailed in documents before the Downing Centre Local Court, where six men are due to appear this morning over events that allegedly took place between 1979 and 1988.

At least 16 boys were allegedly assaulted and 13 people have made complaints about Spillane.

One complainant said Spillane had masturbated him, another that he had kissed him with an open mouth and a third that Spillane had kissed his back, neck and face.

Peter Dwyer, a former teacher and college president, is facing four charges related to a 13-year-old boy in 1987 and 1988, who was also allegedly assaulted by other teachers, including kissing him on the lips and touching his penis and groin area.

John Gaven, a dormitory supervisor from the mid-1970s to the mid-1980s, has been accused of rubbing his erect penis against the chest of a 13-year-old boy and inciting the same group of boys to commit sex acts on one another, which Spillane is accused of organising.

Earlier this week police laid five charges of aggravated sexual assault and indecent assault against Phil Robson, a master of discipline, and two counts of indecent assault against a former assistant dormitory master, Rick McPhillamy.

The men face a total of more than 160 charges.
