Ada — A Baptist preacher was charged with child molestation in Pontotoc County District Court Monday.

Kenneth Wayne Huneycutt, 60, pastor of New Hope Baptist Church in Ada, is charged with four counts of lewd molestation. According to court documents filed by Undersheriff Joe Glover, Huneycutt allegedly molested two children under the age of 12.

Glover said he was called to Ada CARE Cottage Dec. 12 in reference to the alleged molestations. During a child forensic interview, the children claimed Huneycutt touched their private parts and made them touch his.

"I was present at the Ada CARE Cottage and monitored both interviews from a remote room," Glover said. "Both (children) gave consistent statements and appeared to be very credible."

Glover then went to Huneycutt's residence to speak with him about the allegations.

"During this conversation, I informed Ken that an interview was conducted on the (children) who made some comments about being touched," Glover said.

Huneycutt admitted to the touching and when asked about sexual abuse, admitted to that too, according to Glover.

"Huneycutt stated that the (children's) statements were true and he did in fact touch both (victims) in a sexual way," Glover said. "Ken's statements were consistent with the statements made by both (children)."

During a follow up interview at the sheriff's office, Huneycutt reportedly said the molestations started in spring 2008. Huneycutt reportedly told both (children) not to tell anyone about the acts and to keep it "their secret," according to Glover.

"Huneycutt said he did not know why he committed these sexual acts against the (children)," Glover said. "(He) said he suspected it was because he took numerous types of blood pressure medicine. Huneycutt said he was sorry that it occurred, especially since he was the pastor of the New Hope Baptist Church located on Sandy Creek Drive in Ada."

According to a spokesperson for the sheriff's department, Huneycutt — along with his attorney — turned himself in to authorities Monday. He was released after posting a $100,000 bond.
