Archdiocese of St. Louis Reverend Monsignor Richard F. Stika

Pope Benedict XVI announced today that he has appointed the Reverend Monsignor Richard F. Stika, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Louis, to lead the Diocese of Knoxville.

Since his ordination to the priesthood in 1985, Bishop-elect Stika has served both in pastoral and archdiocesan leadership roles, including chancellor and vicar general for the Archdiocese of St. Louis. He is currently the pastor of the Church of the Annunziata in Ladue, Mo.

Bishop-elect Stika’s ordination and installation as the third bishop of Knoxville is scheduled for March 19 at the Knoxville Convention Center.

Stika, 51, will be the third bishop to lead the Knoxville Diocese since its founding in 1988. He succeeds Archbishop Joseph E. Kurtz, who was appointed archbishop of Louisville on June 12, 2007.

The Diocese of Knoxville encompasses 36 counties in East Tennessee and is home to nearly 60,000 Catholics.
