The Anglican Church has publicly apologised for the suffering caused by a former youth leader who abused three young boys in his care.

A District Court jury convicted Andrew William Dawson-Ryan of 19 child sex charges including five counts of unlawful sexual intercourse.

The court heard the 60-year-old from Cumberland Park was a youth leader with the Church of England Boys Society in the 1970s and 80s, and targeted his three victims through the group.

Statements by his victims and their families detailing their suffering were read in the District Court today.

One victim said the abuse had cost him his marriage.

Another victim said he felt there had been a demon hanging over him since he was abused.

Dawson-Ryan is yet to be sentenced for the crimes, but the suppression on his identity was lifted today.

The Anglican Church said this has enabled it to publicly apologise.

The church says it is seeking out any other possible victims of a the former youth leader and urged any other possible victims to come forward.
