Jerry Pilon, pastor of St. Mary Church, Moline, has been asked to step down because of allegations of sexual misconduct, according to a news released issued this afternoon by the Diocese of Peoria. Bishop Daniel R. Jenky asked Pilon to step down from public ministry. The allegations involve a minor and date back to nearly 12 years ago. The news release says the alleged abuse did not take place in the Diocese of Peoria. “(Pilon) has been asked not to function as a Catholic priest in any public capacity, to no longer wear clerical garb or the roman collar, and to refrain from using the title Reverend or Father,” the news release states. Pilon, who has served at St. Mary since 1998, has denied the allegations.
