* School And Church Sued Over Alleged Abuse

A suit has been filed against officials with St. Joseph Elementary School in Crescent Springs and the Covington Diocese, accusing them of failing to stop abuse against a student.

The allegations in the suit are that a female student was bullied by other students last school year on school property and at school functions.

There are also allegations of a sexual assault.

The following is an official statement from the Diocese of Covington.

DIOCESE OF COVINGTON'S STATEMENT REGARDING LAWSUIT FILED IN KENTON CIRCUIT COURT

The Diocese has just received a copy of the lawsuit that was apparently filed on January 20 in the Kenton Circuit Court against the principal, pastor, and a teacher at St. Joseph Crescent Springs, Bishop Foys, and several members of the Diocese's administrative staff. The complaint is based on a situation last year involving two second-grade students at the parish school. From what we have been able to determine thus far, the school handled the matter responsibly and with sensitivity to the children's young age and circumstances. The Diocese remains deeply committed to the safety and well being of the students in our care, the values and mission of our Catholic schools, and providing the opportunity for a Catholic education to as many families as possible. We ask for your prayers for the parish, the Diocese, and for the families involved.
