A man who was unable to file suit against the Archdiocese of Los Angeles while serving in the Iraq war has filed suit under the provisions of the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act. The veteran, whose military service took place during the one-year window when California lifted the statute of limitations in clerical abuse cases, alleges he was abused by a priest of the archdiocese when he was 16. The Act suspends statutes of limitation for military service personnel; attorneys for the archdiocese argue that the Act ought not to apply to the plaintiff because he was a volunteer.
