A PRIEST is being investigated by police over claims he acted inappropriately towards teenagers.

Father Stephen Miller has been suspended and ordered out of his parish, St Brendan's RC Church in Motherwell.

He is also chaplain at the town's Our Lady's High School and Monklands Hospital.

Miller has not been charged with an offence but Strathclyde Police contacted the Diocese of Motherwell on March 12.

Bishop Joseph Devine told him to leave his home the next day. It is believed he is living with relatives.

A source said: "Fr Miller has been been in this area for years and is well known.

No one can believe it."

Another priest has been drafted in to cover mass at St Brendan's while Miller is being investigated.

The Catholic Church said: "Following the receipt of a complaint and launch of a police enquiry, Fr Miller was removed from parish ministry."

Strathclyde Police said: "We received a complaint alleging inappropriate behaviour towards male youths by a man in his 40s.

"The youths have yet to be interviewed."
