Wilmington, Del. —

The nation's most active support group for survivors of clergy sexual abuse of children is calling on the the Diocese of Wilmington bishop to release the names accused priests, according to a press release by the organization.

"Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) respectfully calls on Bishop Malooly to immediately release the names of all credibly accused religious order perpetrators who have worked in the Diocese of Wilmington or are currently living there," said Delaware SNAP Director Judy Miller in the release.

It went on to say that SNAP has information that there are at least nine accused abusers living at the Oblates of St. Frances de Sales retirement home in Childs, Md. and that "their presence has never been disclosed to the surrounding communities" nor their movements restricted, despite documentation that "child molesters rarely stop abusing children."

The request comes on the heels of a suit filed earlier this month by a former resident, who said he was abused while he atteneded Church of the Holy Child in North Wilmington as a child by Father Paul Daleo, a Capuchin Friar.

A window created by Child Victim's Act of Delaware, which gave victims a two years to file suit no matter when the incidents occurred, closes June 30.

In addition to identifying predators, Delaware's law has led to disclosure of documents that only civil discovery can bring to light, the release said, documents key to holding to account institutions that have enabled and covered up abuse.

Earlier this week, attorneys for John Doe released a secret love letter that Daleo wrote to the boy in 1980.

"Heart-wrenching personal stories of the survivors are often difficult to hear. Much of the ongoing pain victims endure is only heightened by isolation," Miller said in the release. "Many victims wrongly blame themselves for the abuse – or they have been blamed by the perpetrator and others."

Miller coordinates a monthly support group in Wilmington for survivors of child sexual abuse. For the unpublished meeting location, survivers and concerned supporters can call her at (302) 397-1622 or email her at snapdelaware@yahoo.com.
