PORTLAND (NEWS CENTER) -- A special mass was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception today in conjunction with national child abuse prevention month.

The mass was one of prayer and penance for survivors of clergy sexual abuse. Bishop Richard Malone apologized to survivors and urged any victim who hasn't come forward to do so.

Malone also answered critics who say the Diocese hasn't done enough to help victims.

"Our work of protecting and healing is now fully and extensively integrated into policies and protocols and structures of the church across the country and here in Maine. And despite what some few people incessantly insist, the Diocese of Portland and I personally as your Bishop are fully committed to the promise that I and my brother bishops made in response to this crisis," said Malone.
