A local Sikh spiritual leader facing sexual offence charges has had his case put off for two weeks.

Lakwinder Singh, 29, was a Giani, a kind of Sikh priest, at Gurdwara Guru Amandas Darbar temple in Rutland, when he was arrested in January.

He is charged with sexual exploitation, sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault involving a 15-year-old girl.

He's also charged with assaulting his wife.

On Friday, Singh

appeared with his lawyer Clarke Burnett in a Kelowna courtroom for an arraignment hearing.

Burnett asked the court to put off the hearing for two weeks. He said the Crown has given him most of the information it is required to disclose but that he is still needs to get a little more.

He also said he and the crown prosecutor need to meet to discuss how long a trial might take. The request was granted.

Singh was released on $2,000 bail following his arrest and is to have no contact with his wife, the teenaged girl and others.

He was also ordered to surrender his passport and remain in B.C.

Singh is a citizen of India who was in Canada on a work visa.

After he was charged, Singh was terminated from his employment at the temple.
