LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- The ministry of jailed evangelist Tony Alamo file a motion Thursday opposing an effort by the state to seal the proceedings of a lawsuit over child welfare officials seizing children associated with the church.

In a court filing Thursday, Florida lawyer Philip E. Kuhn said the court case can be open to the public and reporters without releasing the identities of children and families involved. Kuhn also said the openness will help guide the "ship of justice over the turbulent seas of human disputes to the safe harbor of truth."

The lawsuit, on behalf of the church and two Alamo followers, accused state officials of conducting a "systematic, persistent and continuous campaign of harassment and intimidation" against Alamo's ministry over its religious views.

Alamo, 74, remained jailed pending a May 18 federal trial on charges he took young girls across state lines for sex.
