THE CASE against a former vicar accused of child abuse at an Isle of Wight youth centre has been thrown out by a Crown Court judge.

Judge Thomas Longbotham ordered a jury to deliver not guilty verdicts against ex-Christian youth worker Anthony Callan-Travis who had been accused of two counts of indecent assault and a further charge of gross indecency against a boy aged under the age of 16.

Mr Callan-Travis of Knaresborough had denied all three charges which were alleged to have taken place at the Westbrook Centre in Ryde, Isle of Wight, in the early 1980s.

A former priest at Holy Trinity Church, Knaresborough from 2004 till 2008, Mr Callan-Travis was also Police Chaplain for Knaresborough and the Army Chaplain for the Cadets at the Halfpenny Lane-based headquarters.
