A former lawyer who claims he was sexually abused at his Jesuit school has won the right to sue the governors for ?5million.

Patrick Raggett says he became fully aware of the damage it caused only after years of poor achievement as a solicitor, a failed marriage and binge-drinking leading to a 2005 breakdown.

Mr Raggett, 50, told the High Court in London he was abused by a now-dead master at Preston Catholic College, Lancs, between 1969 and 1976.

The member of staff, who taught French and coached football, used his interest in sport and photography to further his predatory sexual activity, it is claimed.

Mrs Justice Swift ruled the case could go to trial. The college shut in 1978 and the governors deny liability..
