Bans on speakers. Communion rail showdowns. Censorship. Smothering academic and theological dissent. How's that working for you, Catholic bishops?

Not well, says, Thomas Reese, in a harsh critique listing those behaviors in a post on the Washington Post blog On Faith, "Memo to Bishops: No one is listening." http://newsweek.washingtonpost.com/onfaith/georgetown/2009/05/memo_to_bishops_no_one_is_listening.html?loc=interstitialskip

Reese, who is a senior Fellow at the Woodstock Theological Center at Georgetown University, says too many bishops have been "egged on" in these actions by a "conservative conspiracy" of Republicans who lost the election.
