A Danville man has been released from the Lawrence County Jail after posting a $70,000 bail on rape and sexual abuse charges.

On Thursday, April 30, Lawrence County Sheriff's investigators arrested Kenneth Dyar Wood, 70, of 3914 County Road 81, at his residence. He is charged with first-degree rape and sexual abuse of a child less than 12-years-old.

According to Lawrence County Sheriff Gene Mitchell, the arrest came following an investigation by his officers working with the Colbert County Department of Human Resources, where the complaint was originally filed.

Mitchell said the investigation had been going on for two months. The charges involve an 11-year old female. Mitchell said the investigation also found at least two other people with whom Wood is alleged to have had inappropriate sexual contact.

On Sunday before his arrest, Wood resigned as minister of Barnett's Chapel Pentecostal Church near Sommerville.
