	Sentencing Today for NY Rabbi Convicted of Sex Abuse My Stateline May 8, 2009 http://mystateline.com/content/fulltext/?cid=65661 (Ramapo, NY) -- It's sentencing day for a New York rabbi convicted of taking his teenage daughter out of the country to sexually abuse her. Rabbi Israel Weingarten faces 14 to 17-and-a-half years in prison. Fifty-nine-year-old Weingarten traveled with his daughter between Belgium, Israel and the United States to sexually abuse her in 1997. Prosecutors say the abuse continued for a decade. The victim, now 27, says she was unable to seek help earlier because she did not know much about life outside of the ultra Orthodox community that she grew up in.
