Fmr. Archbishop Ryan President Gets 3-6 Years

The former president of Archbishop Ryan High School has been sentenced to prison for stealing from the school.

Father Charles Newman has been sentenced to three to six years in prison. He was taken into custody immediately on Friday morning for stealing over $900-thousand from the school and also the Franciscan Friars.

Authorities allege believe it was hush money for boys he had sexually abused as students.

One of the young men, Arthur Baselice III, later died of a drug overdoes at age 28 after suffering sever psychological problems. His family (pictured) says they are certain this was caused by the abuse. In court they lashed out at Father Newman. Arthur Baselice Jr. says Newman groomed his son for abuse, by plying him with drugs and alcohol. The mother looked over at Newman and called him the face "of a true demon . . the devil." Later, overcome with emotion, she hollered out in court and ran from the courtroom sobbing.

Newman admits that he had sex with Arthur Baselice III, but claims it was after he had turned 18.

Father Newman was not charged with sexual assault because the statute of limitations had run out in connection with Arthur Baselice III. And although authorities say there were other victims of sexual assault at the hands of Father Newman, they say none of those people came forward.
