An e-mail from the church to parishioners said Katinas, who was accused of child sexual abuse, "fell asleep in the Lord" on Monday. He was 75. The church's current pastor, the Rev. Christopher Constantinides, confirmed the e-mail but offered no other information. "I have no details as to how he passed away or where," Constantinides said, adding that funeral information would be forthcoming once he had consulted with the family. Katinas led Holy Trinity, a pillar of the local Greek community, for 28 years. He oversaw the church's move from East Dallas to new facilities on Hillcrest Road, played a high-profile role in the annual Greek Food Festival, and joined in local interfaith efforts. But soon after his retirement in 2006, he was suspended by the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America from performing priestly duties even part time. On Feb. 21, 2007, a representative of the archdiocese informed a hushed crowd at Holy Trinity that Katinas had engaged in "serious moral transgressions" involving minors. Later he would be defrocked, and late last year the archdiocese agreed in principle to settle a lawsuit in which five male plaintiffs said they had been sexually abused as youths by Katinas. He also faced allegations of sexual abuse from when he was a priest in a suburban Chicago parish, before coming to Dallas. Katinas' whereabouts have been a matter of speculation. He reportedly left for Greece in 2007, just before the archdiocese told the Holy Trinity faithful he had been suspended because of credible allegations of sexual abuse.
