WOODHAVEN — Sentencing for the Rev. Roger Knapp is expected to be at 11:15 a.m. Thursday before 33rd District Judge Michael McNally.

Knapp is expected to receive probation for a charge of disorderly conduct. He pleaded no contest May 13 to the misdemeanor.

The charge stems from a March 26 incident at Amigo’s Restaurant, 22085 West Road.

A waitress at the restaurant told police that Knapp, now on leave from St. Victor Catholic Church in Gibraltar, was exposed and rubbing his privates while seated at a table.

Initial charges of lewdness and indecent exposure, also misdemeanors, were dropped after a plea agreement was reached.

Knapp is expected to receive six or nine months probation. If the terms of the probation are kept, the misdemeanor charge will be dismissed.

A police report said Knapp had visited Amigo’s several times before and pursued conversations that had sexual overtones.

When the waitress reported what she saw to employees at the restaurant, one of them took down his license plate number. The waitress went to police with the information she had.

Police interviewed Knapp who said he spilled some salsa on his pants and was trying to clean it, a police report said. The priest told police the employees must have misunderstood what he was doing.

Knapp and the Archdiocese of Detroit agreed to the leave of absence from St. Victor. It began May 6.

He has served as pastor there since 1996. Another priest has been temporarily assigned to the church.
