A Rockingham man has been charged with child sexual assault offences after he allegedly groped a young school girl at a church-run camp.

Det-Sen Const Carl Fjastad, of the child abuse squad, alleged the man had twice indecently dealt with the then-12-year-old girl, once at a Baldivis camp and once at an undisclosed location.

The 26-year-old man was an assistant group leader at the church-run camp, which held daily vacation sessions for school children.

Police received a complaint just last week but will allege the two crimes happened between December 2008 and January 2009.

The man has been arrested and is expected to be released on strict protective conditions which include not contacting the victim or her family and not working unsupervised with children.

He will appear in Rockingham Magistrate’s Court at a later date facing two counts of indecently dealing with a child under-13.
