Pope Benedict XVI Meeting with Sean Brady and Diarmuid Martin

The country's two most senior Catholic clergymen have met meeting Pope Benedict in Rome this evening.

Cardinal Sean Brady and the Archbishop of Dublin, Diarmuid Martin, had a 45-minute meeting with Ponitff in the wake of the latest child abuse crisis.

The prelates discussed the Ryan Report with the Pope.

The private meeting followed encounters during the week with six heads of Vatican departments.

Last week prominent church-people here urged religious orders to provide more compensation for abuse survivors in church-run institutions.

The meeting follows weeks of controversy since the Ryan Commission published its final report.

The impact on the church, the response of religious orders and the way forward will all be discussed.
