A Salinas priest accused of child molestion has posted bail and is in the processed of being released within the next hour, according to an official from the Monterey County Jail.

At a preliminary hearing today, MontereyCounty Superior Court Judge Terrance Duncan reduced Cortes' original bail of $750,000 to $100,000 after the judge said prosecutors had failed to provide evidence that the Rev. Antonio Cortes of St. Mary of the Nativity Church in Salinas is a flight risk and poses any danger to the public.

Cortes is facing felony charges of sodomy and possession of child pornography, and misdemeanor charges on child molestation and providing alcohol to a minor.

Cortes was in court today for a preliminary hearing, where the court heard graphic details in a sexual abuse case against Cortes. After about three hours of police testimony, Duncan said there is sufficient evidence for Cortes to stand trial.
