The Argentine Catholic Church decided not to comment on father Julio César Grassi's conviction for aggravated sexual abuse and corruption of minors.

"The ecclesiastical authority doesn't usually comment on the decisions of the Judiciary in cases in which members of the clergy are involved, since the Church believes that the Judiciary's verdicts should be uniform for all citizens," said the Argentine Catholic Information Agency (AICA).

The agency, which depends on the Argentine Episcopal Conference, shed light on the news of Grassi's conviction through its information service with details of the trial in which the religious man was indicted for 17 counts of sexual abuse, 15 of which he was absolved from.

The information recalls that in these days, with the "Priestly Year" beginning on June 19, the Holy See sent out a "message to all clergymen" of the world, in which there is a paragraph that refers to the priests involved in crime situations.

"Obviously, it's necessary to continue the investigation, judge them accordingly, and apply the penalty they deserve," affirmed part of the message sent to priests worldwide, according to AICA.
