SIX men involved in one of Scotland's worst paedophile networks were today jailed for a total of more than 50 years.

A judge at the High Court in Edinburgh sentenced the group to between two and 20 years for a string of child pornography charges.

Neil Campbell was jailed for five years

It followed a trial last month where shocking details emerged of a suburban paedophile gang operating in Scotland.

Jordanhill Parish Church members were horrified as it emerged a respected elder was among the paedophile ring.

Sunday school helper and bellringer Neil Campbell, 46, was one of eight men found guilty of a catalogue of child abuse and pornography charges.

Six of the group were sentenced today.

Campbell, of Bearsden, received five years and four months; John Milligan, 40, from Govan, got 20 years; Ross Webber, 27, from North Berwick, was sentenced to 10 years and nine months; Craig Boath, 24, of Dundee, got 11 years and nine months; John Murphy, 44, from Govanhill, received two years; and Colin Slaven, 23, from Edinburgh, was given four years.

Milligan, Webber and Boath were also found guilty of conspiring to participate in the sexual abuse of children.

Two other men, Neil Strachan, 41, and James Rennie, 38, were found guilty of conspiring to abuse youngsters and will be sentenced next month.

Nearly 125,000 indecent images were seized during Operation Algebra, which uncovered the group, believed to be Scotland's biggest paedophile network.

During a nine-week trial, jurors heard horrific evidence about graphic online chatroom discussions on child abuse. Jurors wept as they viewed disturbing images.
