A crowd of anxious supporters gathered outside a Savanna-La-Mar courtroom in Westmoreland Wednesday to hear the fate of popular Jamaican-born American evangelist Paul Lewis.

Pastor Lewis, who is accused of sexually assaulting two teen girls, was ordered remanded until July 7.

Lewis, the head of Paul Lewis Ministries was charged Wednesday with carnal abuse and indecent assault of two teenagers.

Mr. Lewis was questioned Wednesday morning in the presence of his attorney Michael Erskine.

The pastor, who is in Jamaica on the invitation of a local church, is accused of assaulting the teens in a Westmoreland hotel.

The evangelist, who resides in Brooklyn, New York, reportedly took two girls aged 14 and 15 to a hotel in the resort town of Negril on the weekend.

He allegedly made sexual advances to the 14-year-old which were refused before he turned his attention to the 15-year old.

He allegedly had sexual intercourse with the 15-year-old and then gave her money.

Pastor Lewis was nabbed Sunday night just minutes before he was scheduled to begin delivering his message at a crusade.

Where were their parents? asks Bennett

In the meantime, Government Senator and Head of the Hydel Group of Schools Hyacinth Bennett has chided the parents of the two girls involved in the incident.

She is questioning why the girls were allowed to accompany the Pastor.

"Whether the man is a pastor or not, whether the man is an evangelist or not the answer is no, your bodies are valuable parts. Parents need to know where their children are ... how could I have my teenage daughters sporting and sitting in cars with an evangelist in the country. I must know where they are ... who gave them permission to go with the pastor. Parents wake up! You need to know where your children are, take responsibility for your children," Mrs. Bennett urged parents.

She was addressing an achievers ceremony in St. Catherine Wednesday morning, which was put on by the Jamaica Foundation for Life Long Learning.
