Benito Catello

Action News is learning more about a man who ran a self-described "ministry" in the Valley, and was arrested for molesting children.

Benito Catello is a self-proclaimed prophet, proclaimed by Metro on Friday to be a child molester.

"What's going on, I think, having never examined him, but taking a look at the arrest report, this is power and control," says Doctor Marv Glovinsky, a clinical and forensic psychologist.

Doctor Glovinsky says it's likely 75-year-old Catello essentially brainwashed both female victims, who were seventeen and thirteen, members of what the phony prophet calls a "ministry" in Northeast Las Vegas.

Doctor Glovinsky calls it a cult.

"I think we have deviousness here; we have manipulation, and in this instance, evil," he says.

Action News has obtained a copy of the arrest report.

It shows Catello did, in fact, maniuplate his victims, and "conditioned and disciplined" them "to never question or doubt" him.

If they did, they would be "berated," "degraded," and "excommunicated" from the so-called congregation.

"This is not love. This is abuse, this is hostility, this is aggression, this is assault, and it's all done under the color of caring about somebody," says Doctor Glovinsky.

An actual diagnosis isn't possible from the arrest report, but what is clear is that Catello told police if the girls said he molested them, it must be true, but he isn't responsible, because it was God's doing, and he was filled with quote "the spirit."

If convicted of 27 counts of sexual assault, sexual assault with a victim under 14, and lewdness with a minor under 14, Catello could spend the rest of his life in prison.
