Abuser claimed he was a black magic priest and terrified his victims into keeping their ordeal a secret.

A former policeman has been jailed for seven years for sexually abusing three youngsters after he claimed he was a black magic high priest.

John McFadden, 42, told one victim - then aged 12 - that demons and spirits would kill him and drag him to hell unless he carried out his sick demands.

McFadden had been convicted of abusing the boy at a house in Kirkintilloch in East Dunbartonshire, near Glasgow, between 1988 and 1992. He was also found guilty of using lewd and libidinous practices towards two other youngsters at the same address between 1983 and 1990.

He befriended the boy when he joined a martial arts club he ran. McFadden then persuaded the youngster to stay overnight. It was then he abused the boy, and used occult-styled props to scare the youngster into keeping the abuse a secret.

His young victim, now aged 32, finally escaped the abuse when he joined the Royal Marines and moved away. McFadden was charged when two other victims came forward.

Judge Lord Matthews told McFadden he had committed "a monstrous breach of trust" as he returned to the High Court in Glasgow to be sentenced.

Lord Matthews told McFadden: "This was a fairly monstrous breach of trust. You ran a martial arts club and were well regarded.

"You effectively took people off the street and taught them how to defend themselves, but then abused that trust."

He also placed McFadden on the sex offenders list and referred the case to the Scottish Ministers.
