A Roman Catholic priest who spent a decade in the St. Louis area before he was convicted of sexually abusing schoolboys in the 1980s may be released in September from a state facility in Rushville, Ill., a DuPage County judge ruled Thursday.

The Rev. Fred Lenczycki, 65, served two years for abusing three boys from 1982 to 1984 while serving at a Hinsdale, Ill., church.

In March 2008, a jury ruled Lenczycki a sexually violent person. Under the release plan, Lenczycki would have to live with family and be under supervision and restrictions.

Lenczycki was chaplain for the DePaul Health Center in Bridgeton from 1996 until 2002, when he was charged with molesting three 12-year-old boys 20 years earlier when he was with the Hinsdale church.
