Needham — After it appeared the Voice of the Faithful might have to close its national headquarters in Needham due to a financial downturn, the organization is now likely to keep its office open after raising $63,000 in a week, the organization announced today, July 21.

"We are deeply grateful to our many generous donors and encouraged by their sentiments of support," said Bill Casey, chairman of the Board of Trustees, in a statement. "Now we begin to build a stable base of predictable income to sustain our ongoing operations."

Voice of the Faithful originated in Wellesley and had headquarters in Newton before making the move to Hillside Avenue in Needham last month.

The Voice of the Faithful was looking to raise about $60,000 to save the office. The organization's revenue comes directly from donations, Casey said. There were no intentions of ending the organization, Casey said, but if the office closed, Voice of the Faithful would have become an all-volunteer organization working through local chapters.

Voice of the Faithful was founded in 2002 in response to the Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal. It started in the basement of a Wellesley church before moving to offices in Newton.

On its Web site, www.votf.org, the organizations states its three goals as: "support survivors of clergy sexual abuse, support priests of integrity, and shape structural change within the Catholic Church."
