Cambridge —

A Brazilian priest who was working at St. Anthony of Padua, a Catholic church on Cardinal Medeiros Avenue, was suspended by the Archdiocese Saturday after allegations of sexual misconduct.

Archdiocese spokeswoman Kelly Lynch said the allegations against Rev. Pedro Jose Damazio were made by an adult. She would not say if the alleged victim was a parishoner at St. Anthony of Padua. Damazio is a priest in Santa Catarina, Brazil. The Archdiocese has notified his home diocese of the allegations.

The Rev. Pedro Damazio

Damazio has served the Brazilian community at different parishes throughout Boston, Lynch said. He is also the acting coordinator of the Brazilian apostolate in Boston.

Under the suspension he is prohibited from performing any public ministry within the Archdiocese of Boston. The restrictions will remain in place pending the outcome of a police

investigation, Lynch said.

Lynch said the Diocese's Office of Pastoral Support and Outreach is assisting any individual affected by this news. They can be reached toll free at (866) 244-9603. Brazilian community members can reach a Portuguese-speaking counselor at extension 13.
