Seven men and five women were selected to hear the case against Henry Elbert Edgington, 65, of China Spring, a former pastor who is accused of 10 counts of possession of child pornography.

Prosecutor Hilary LaBorde read the charges against Edgington, who previously served as a part-time pastor of Elm Mott Church of Christ.

Following opening statements this afternoon, the prosecution will begin its testimony.

Defense attorney Seth Sutton said the affirmative defense will be that Edgington's conduct was for "bona fide educational, medical, psychological, psychiatric, judicial or law enforcement or legislative purposes."

The pastor and members of Edgington's church have said the former pastor had told them of his crusade to rid the internet of child pornography before he was arrested on child porn charges.

If convicted, Edgington faces up to 10 years in prison on each count. Retired state district judge George Allen, who is presiding over the trial, has the option of stacking the sentences or ordering them to be served consecutively.
