A former Roman Catholic priest has been extradited to Britain from the US to face a string of child sex abuse charges spanning three decades.

Father James Robinson, who is accused of 22 sex offences on young boys between 1959 and 1983, returned to the UK yesterday.

The 71-year-old who moved to California in the mid-1980s will appear before magistrates in Birmingham later today.

The charges against Robinson, who was a clergyman in Birmingham and Coventry areas, include counts of indecent assault, indecency against a child, and serious sexual assault.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said: “Robinson was successfully extradited from the USA on Thursday, landing at Heathrow Airport on Friday.

“He was brought straight to a police station in Birmingham, where he was charged yesterday afternoon.

“The charges relate to alleged sexual offences against young boys between 1959 and 1983.”
