St. Teresa's Church

Are missing financial records and financial irregularities at the heart of the dismissal of a Catholic priest and business manager?

Monsignor Fred Voorhes and the business manager/religious education director Marc Pasquale, of St. Teresa's Church in South Buffalo, were terminated over a week ago. Pasquale admits he has contacted the Erie County District Attorney's office about what he found to be "questionable financial practices."

Pasquale told 2 On Your Side there are missing financial documents. "If there's a bad situation that took place at St. Teresa's then we need to identify it. I'm not looking to crucify anybody, but we have to correct a situation that is wrong and that's what the Diocese needs to do," said Pasquale.

A spokesman for the Buffalo Catholic Diocese says Pasquale's dismissal "had nothing to do with financial irregularities."

The District Attorney will neither confirm or deny an investigation.

Some parishioners are calling for an investigation. One member of the parish council is concerned about money problems at the church, claiming that in the past only $2,000 was collected a week, now the church collects up to $5,000 a week.
