The victims of sexual abuse by Jesuit Priests in Montana are being encouraged to come forward and file a legal claim against their abuser by November 30th in order to get compensation and healing.

The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests, along with lawyers, want the victims as part of a February 2009 bankruptcy case against the Oregon Province of the Society of Jesus.

SNAP says the priests traveled to Montana reservations as well as to Missoula's Catholic churches, where the abuse is said to have happened.

So far, hundreds have stepped forward to claim abuse, but SNAP believes there are more still out there.

"This is a cancer on the body of the Church and like any cancer there is hope for healing its got to be rooted out" stated David Clohessy with SNAP.

"I would say that we are making every possible effort to make people, all people, not just Catholics, (aware) of the tragedy of the sexual abuse" stated Renee St. Martin the Wizeman Director of Communications for the Catholic Diocese of Montana. "It's just the Catholic Church is on the forefront of responding to the crisis."

The Catholic Diocese of Montana in Helena also tells us they published the lawsuit filing deadline in their July newsletter and it will also appear in the September edition as well. They say that many churches also post the information publicly.
