APPLETON — The Minnesota director of Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests issued an apology Wednesday for claiming a former teacher accused of molesting students worked in the Green Bay diocese.

Bob Schwiderski sent an e-mail message Wednesday to Deacon Timothy Reilly acknowledging that Brother Raimond Rose, who is the target of a sex-abuse lawsuit in Minnesota, did not work at Xavier High School in Appleton.

Schwiderski jumped to the conclusion because news reports from The Post-Crescent from the 1960s mention a Brother Raimond at Xavier, but never identify him by last name.

At a Monday press conference in front of Xavier High School, Schwiderski claimed the Brother Raimond was employed at the school as a teacher in 1968-69 was Raimond Rose.

But the diocese and school officials later determined it was not the same man, and that Raimond Rose never worked in Appleton.

"The tremendous support you and the Xavier officials provided in exposing my mistake strengthens my belief we will continue to work well together in the cause of recovery from and prevention of sexual abuse," Schwiderski wrote.
