(WHAS11) - An organization that supports victims of sexual abuse is asking a local church not to ordain a registered sex offender.

SNAP stands for the Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests and they are asking the City of Refuge Worship Center to consider the risks of ordaining Mark Hourigan.

Hourigan was convicted a decade ago of sexual abuse involving an 11-year-old boy.

Hourigan told CNN earlier this week he underwent sexual abuse treatment and has learned to change.

But SNAP doesn't think the church should rush into ordaining Hourigan.

Hourigan has agreed not to work with children when he is ordained.

He's expected to be ordained this weekend.
