HARTFORD, Conn. — A former Connecticut resident is facing a federal indictment in that state, accused of sexually abusing nine boys over nearly a decade at a school for poor children he founded in Haiti.

Thirty-nine-year-old Douglas Perlitz allegedly threatened the boys at the Project Pierre Toussaint school in Cap-Haitien with expulsion or withholding benefits if they didn't comply with his demands.

Connecticut U.S. Attorney Nora Dannehy announced the indictment Thursday, a day after Perlitz was arrested at his home in Eagle, Colo. The indictment lists seven counts of traveling outside of the U.S. with the intent to engage in sexual conduct with minors and three counts of engaging in sexual conduct in foreign places with minors. His lawyer did not immediately return a call for comment.
