The Methodist Church of Southern Africa says it has not been given enough information to properly probe allegations of child abuse at the controversial Central Methodist Church.

The Social Development Department and the National Prosecuting Authority have been called in to investigate the allegations.

Earlier this week, Eyewitness News revealed girls living at the church were allegedly offered toiletries in exchange for sexual favours.

It is understood boys at the place of refuge are being recruited into a life of crime.

Eyewitness News has the name of one teacher who the girls claim is responsible for the abuse.

Ross Olivier, appointed to deal with the allegations, said it was a complicated investigation.

“Most of the children are no longer at CMC and to be able to take affidavits is difficult. These are very serious allegations.”
