MADISON, Wis. (AP) ¯ The Wisconsin Supreme Court will review the conviction of a former Jesuit priest accused of abusing two students during retreats in Wisconsin in the 1960s.

The court will decide whether the decades-long delay in prosecuting Donald McGuire unfairly undermined his ability to present a defense.

McGuire was once a spiritual adviser to Mother Teresa and her religious order of nuns and is considered one of the most influential figures convicted in the Catholic Church's sexual abuse scandal.

McGuire was convicted in Walworth County of sexually abusing two teenagers during trips to southeastern Wisconsin when he taught them at the Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Ill.

An appeals court in May rejected his request for a new trial.
