The president of the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops has spoken out on the Bishop Raymond Lahey case, at the annual meeting of Canada's Catholic Bishops in Cornwall, Ontario. CCCB president, Winnipeg Archbishop James Weisgerber in his speech to the delegates, suggested the arrest of Bishop Raymond Lahey has been especially painful, not only because of the seriousness of the charges but also because it involves a former member of the Assembly, an Episcopal colleague, a close associate and, for many, a friend. Archbishop Weisgerber says the charges merit a thorough investigation by competent authorities. He went on to indicate as bishops they are united in concern and prayer for each other and for all whose lives are impacted by the crime and sin of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse. The 90 bishops are continuing their meetings until Friday.
