INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- A victim's advocacy group is asking anyone who saw, suspected or suffered abuse to come forward.

The group called SNAP is praising the victims who came forward and reported the alleged crimes in the Lafayette County child sex abuse case that came to light this week.

"Family members have been hurt, and the community is hurt," said Adam Walker. "It's a sad horrible day."

At the Community of Christ headquarters, the church system where three of the men who have been charged in the case were lay ministers, officials said this weekend ministers will be discussing with churchgoers an item from the church's handbook about reporting abuse.

SNAP members gathered on Friday asking the Church of Christ to use every possible resource to help find other victims.

"They use God and fear of God to get to them," said Judy Jones. "It's possible there are many victims out there who are very scared."

In the wake of the child abuse charges, Burrell Mohler Sr., David Mohler and Jared Mohler have all had their lay minister status revoked.

"We have zero tolerance of abuse of any kind, for any people," said Linda Booth, a church spokeswoman.

A church spokesperson told KCTV5 that the three churches where the men were ministers will talk about the case this weekend in case there are any more victims.

"If it was inappropriate or harmed them in any way, they are to report it," the spokesperson said.

Adam Walker reported abuse in another case. He knows the pain the victims suffer.

"No child ever deserves to have to go through this torment or abuse ever," he said. "Once they speak about it, they heal. They can't let sleep dogs lie."
