WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) ¯ Deliberations are under way in the first trial stemming from a Delaware law giving alleged victims of child sexual abuse a chance to sue for offenses that happened long ago.

The jury began deliberating Tuesday morning in a lawsuit filed by 63-year-old James Sheehan against the Oblates of St. Francis de Sales and Salesianum School in Wilmington.

Sheehan's attorneys say the Oblates and Salesianum are liable under the 2007 Child Victims Act because they were grossly negligent in allowing the late priest Francis Norris to teach at Salesianum, where Sheehan claims he was abused in 1962.

Two other men testified that Norris also abused them, but the defense says the Oblates and the school had no knowledge that Norris may have been a pedophile.
