SANTIAGO – Four people were formally charged Friday in a Chilean court for their alleged participation in a pederasty ring that abused at-risk youths, judicial sources said.

Those in custody – two college students, a telecommunications engineer and a lawyer – were part of a group that under the name of boylover.net coordinated pederastic activities.

Through the Web site, the defendants left messages and information of meetings with youngsters between seven and 12, all of them belonging to a foundation caring for minors at risk because of their family situation.

Police said the four under arrest planned meetings under the pretext that they were extracurricular activities organized by the foundation at properties on the central coast, to which they took the boys and molested them while watching porn movies.

“These individuals knew each other and were characterized by their hidden passion for boys,” Commissioner Jaime Jara, head of the Cybercrime Brigade, said.

One of the accused said as he left the court that the accusations “are absolutely false” and that the true facts “will be cleared up.”

Prosecutors accuse the men of sexual abuse, keeping a collection of pornography and illegal association.

Meanwhile a Filipino priest was ordered held without bail after being arraigned for the crime of sexually abusing a minor at a private high school in a wealthy Santiago neighborhood.

The court considered that releasing the accused would endanger the safety of the child, the only victim identified up to now.

Prosecutor Marcela Toledo said that “the supposition of the existence of the crime is found credible, and the participation of the accused in it,” and the “need for caution” was decided on.

For his part, the priest’s attorney, Carlos Cortes, said that “there is still a lot to add to the case,” and added that the defendant whom he represents “took absolutely no part in the incident.” EFE
