TROY — A 62-year-old city man was arraigned Monday on charges alleging he repeatedly sexually abused two young children at his home.

Lee Lashway, of 16 Donegal Ave., faces three felonies, including one that could potentially carry a life sentence should he be convicted, for the alleged sexual abuse of victims aged 4 and 7 between June and October.

Lashway, who also faces a pair of endangering the welfare of a child misdemeanors, pleaded not guilty before Judge Andrew Ceresia Monday and was remanded to the Rensselaer County Jail without bail, though his public defender may make an application requesting that reasonable bail be set.

After an investigation, Troy police arrested Lashway at his home Friday on a sealed indictment issued the same day by a grand jury. It charges him with course of sexual conduct against a child in both the first and second degrees, as well as predatory sexual assault against a child, a felony.

The last charge, pertaining to the 7-year-old victim, is the most serious he faces and can carry a sentence of up to life in state prison, according to prosecutors. By its definition, the charge accompanies the first-degree course of sexual conduct charge because the victim was under 13 years of age.

The second-degree course of sexual conduct charge, a felony, regards the 4-year-old victim.

Troy police said that Lashway is a member of Grace Fellowship Church in Latham and may have been involved in youth activities there. They took the unusual step of releasing his mug shot, which the department typically does not do, in case there are any other alleged victims who have not come forward.

The instances of abuse occurred on at least two occasions for each victim, according to the indictment.
