The principal of a primary school on Queensland's Darling Downs and two senior Catholic Education officers have been sacked over their handling of sex abuse allegations.

The principal was found not guilty last week of failing to report the allegations to police when they were first raised in 2007.

Toowoomba's Catholic Bishop, William Morris, says all three staff members demonstrated a serious neglect of duty.

"The senior education officers wrongly treated the issue as a disciplinary matter of a non-sexual nature and one of professional misconduct, which was inadequate in the circumstances and showed a poor understanding of appropriate risk management practices," he said.

A former teacher is still before the courts on 46 counts of rape and indecent treatment of children under 16.
