DALLAS — Seven women have filed a lawsuit accusing a Roman Catholic priest of sexual abuse while he served at churches in Arlington and Bedford.

The Fort Worth Catholic Diocese is a defendant in the case, along with the Rev. Joseph Tu, also known as Joseph Ngoc Tu Nguyen, The Dallas Morning News reported. The suit was filed Friday in state district court in Tarrant County.

"Any form of sexual abuse is a tragic violation of an individual's God-given right to exercise control over their own bodies and their own behavior," Bishop Kevin Vann of Fort Worth said in a statement.

Tu is accused of abusing the plaintiffs when they were girls or in their late teens, said their lawyer, Tahira Khan Merritt. Both Merritt and a diocese spokesman said they don't know Tu's whereabouts. Tu previously denied wrongdoing.
